If you are using Windows, and will editing PHP language scripts, HTML documents or similar programming languages, the standard Notepad is not optimal for this, because it lacks highlighing and other helpful features, that ensure a working programming language.

Notepad++ is a free and open source code editor, and Notepad replacement, that runs in Microsoft Windows 10 and other versions of Microsoft Windows. Notepad++ is released with the GNU General Public License.
